about

MOONSTRUCK CD Review 1999
Whatz Up Magazine - Fort Wayne, In

Jethro Easyfields started playing music when he was 10 years old, having been inspired by seeing Jerry Lee Lewis perform. Ten years later, he was playing here in Fort Wayne, and he eventually moved to New Orleans in order to pursue his goal of writing and playing his own music. His first album, On the Horizon, was recorded in 1995 in Maurice, Louisiana with a group of blues and jazz musicians. His latest CD, Moonstruck, takes a more personal approach; Easyfields played all the instruments on the except for drums and sly guest guitar by New Orleans guitarist Marc Stone.
The songs on Moonstruck are as personal lyrically as they are musically. "Built to Last" is outwardly confident, but indecision lurks just beneath the surface.
Stylistically, Moonstruck is difficult to pen down. The title track is a sultry Delta blues song that's been warped into an atmospheric haze. Elsewhere - such as on "Victim of Consequence" - the songs borrow from folk, country and bluegrass and even pop to make predominantly acoustic music that seems at once roosty and edgy.
Easyfields pops up at live performances around the Fort occasionally and I'd encourage anyone who's tired of the same old folk to give him a try. (EG)
